Manganese has a strong affinity with oxygen and can form stable manganese oxide with oxygen. In addition, as an alloying element additive, ferromanganese can enhance the hardness, ductility, toughness and wear resistance of steel. It is widely used in alloy steels such as structural steels, tool steels, stainless heat-resistant steels and wear-resistant steels. Manganese also has the effect of desulfurizing and reducing the harmful effects of sulfur. Low carbon ferromanganese contains less than 0.7% carbon.
